Squash Racquet Review – Oliver Apex 900/920
It has been a while since I have requested equipment from my sponsor, Oliver – South Africa. One of the main reasons was due to the challenging times we have experienced and me still having equipment u was happy to use.
Recently I requested the Apex 900 (racquet on the left in the picture), the new model (2023/2024) will be the 920, and had a few hits with it. Something I have come to learn about Oliver, they never disappoint with their equipment.
The racquet had a slightly rectangular grip (handle) as opposed to the conventional oval. This does appeal to others who have used a brand that had that feature as standard. For a long string system it does not have a spongy feel on the strings, which for me is a good thing as I like a stiff feel of the ball on the strings. It did have the thinner gauge string and it was new, so I guess with time as the strings soften or a thicker guage string with give it a slightly softer feel.
The racquet is balanced, light, and packs a huge punch. Due to it being light, the head does move faster through the air, so it will take a little getting used to as your timing will be off in the initial few hits.
This racquet will suit intermediate to pro level players as it will bring value to the intermediate players game. For the pro it has the look, feel and control features you would be needing.
If you needing equipment to help up your game this is the one. You will definitely be seeing me on the courts with thus racquet in the near future.
Squash tip, a good length is important when setting up your rally.
