Apex 900/920 review continuation…

Above is the link to the review I did on the Apex 900/920. At the time i took the demo on a test hit and wrote the review. Recently I took ownership of my own and have had the pleasure of using this racquet more often.

If there was a racquet I would have wanted 20 years ago, this would have been the one. The balance of the racquet makes it comfortable in your hand. If you have used another brand of racquet with a square-ish grip this racquet has that. The racquet makes you want to play squash when you hold it.

For those looking for power, it comes in abundance. The balance and weight gives you full control of the racquet and you are able to direct the ball effortlessly in both power and direction. This is very necessary as even hitting off the sweat spot you are able to maintain control of the ball.

Playing various shots becomes effortless, especially the volleys which tend to be wayward when using heavier racquets. Not only does holding the racquet make you want to play squash, but while playing it is like you do not want it to end.

If you have acquired or are thinking of taking possession of one or more of this racquet here are a few things you need to be aware of. These are not negative points, rather information so that you are not hard on yourself or the equipment for the decision you made.

  • Due to the light weight and balance you will find the racquet head coming through faster, disrupting your timing.
  • The materials using in manufacturing the frame makes it a little rigid. Slight design differences to the Orca’s removes the trampoline/ spongy feel/ effect.
  • There is plenty power for a light racquet and just as much feel for a touch game.

I know you will be saying, ‘You have heard it all before, and he is saying all this just to sell the racquet’. Until you have tried this racquet for yourself, will you understand it. This racquet all round is such a well constructed racquet and priced even better for this quality. If you want to try it for yourself, Tony Jackson Sports has a demo in stock and racquets on sale.

Coaching Tip: Train as if you are playing a match and play the match as if you are training
